A HIKE TO FIGHT HOMELESSNESS
CEO Josiah Haken, Senior Director of Development Dan Sadlier, and City Relief board members take the first annual trip to climb Kilimanjaro this February 2026.
With the goal of raising 100K, the City Relief team looks to climb the highest mountain in Africa in solidarity with their unhoused friends and City Relief guests that are facing their own hurdles, barriers, and mountains on a daily basis. Our team knows that no one chooses homelessness. Thus, this climb and its proceeds will go to City Relief, providing food, clothing, and individualized care plans helping the homeless of NYC and New Jersey find housing.
The fundraiser is achieved by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano located in Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania.
MARK REITSMA
In February 2026, I’m stepping way out of my comfort zone to take on a truly meaningful challenge: climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. My hope is to raise awareness and support for a cause that is very close to my heart — City Relief.
Since 1989, City Relief has been a beacon of hope for homeless communities in New York City and New Jersey. They provide more than just food and resources — they offer a hand to hold, a community to belong to, and the tools needed to rebuild lives. Through housing, addiction recovery programs, employment solutions, and spiritual support, they bring light into some of the darkest moments of people’s lives.
I want you to know that I am personally covering all the costs of this trip, so every dollar you contribute will go straight to City Relief’s vital work—no strings attached.
Please consider joining me in this journey to help end homelessness. Your support, no matter the size, can truly make a difference in someone’s life.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me in this effort. Together, we can bring hope where it’s most needed.
~Mark
